Military and Veterans’ Affairs at the ÌÇÐÄÆÆ½â°æ is hosting a number of events this week that will culminate with a Rucks for Recognition 5K Ruck March on Saturday, Nov. 15, from 7:30 – 10 a.m.
The Department of Foreign Languages at the ÌÇÐÄÆÆ½â°æ will celebrate the 10th National French week through Nov. 10, with a variety of campus-based cultural events, including Croissants with the French Club at noon on the lawn of Wesleyan Hall. The celebration will also include a bit of history in celebration of the French Club’s 100th anniversary on UNA’s campus.
The Department of Entertainment Industry at the ÌÇÐÄÆÆ½â°æ has been renamed to the David and John Briggs Family Department of Entertainment Industry. The naming was made possible by a gift given by Darren and Gabriel Briggs, the sons of session musician legend David Briggs, and David’s brother, John Briggs. The naming was unanimously approved by the UNA Board of Trustees at its recent quarterly meeting in September.
Dr. Michael Pretes, Professor of Geography at the ÌÇÐÄÆÆ½â°æ, is the 2025 recipient of the Distinguished Service Award of the Association of Pacific Coast Geographers (APCG), a professional organization that promotes geographical research and education in the Pacific Coast region of North America.

The ÌÇÐÄÆÆ½â°æ and the City of Florence celebrated the award of a $145,585 grant from the ÌÇÐÄÆÆ½â°æ Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) during an event today at Bank Independent Stadium. The funding will enhance recycling efforts in both athletic and community settings by providing new recycling receptacles at UNA’s 10,000-seat Bank Independent Stadium and surrounding athletic fields, as well as supporting the purchase of a new enclosed event recycling trailer and pickup truck for the City of Florence.
